Lufthansa was elected as the Best Airline in Europe and the Best Western European Airline. The awards existed to Lufthansa on the occasion of an event held by Skytrax in London. The marketplace study institute Skytrax concentrating on the aeronautics industry had formerly surveyed regarding 20 million passengers from more than 160 countries worldwide.

Passengers from across the globe voted in favor of the German costs airline and therefore additionally recognized the solution given by Lufthansa. Austrian Airlines was offered two awards. The employees were provided the award as the Best Airline Staff Service in Europe. Moreover, Austrian Airlines is champion in the category Best Business Class Onboard Catering.

The survey was carried out by the marketing research institute Skytrax concentrating on the aviation industry. Guests were asked to assess the offering aboard and solutions of the airline companies at the airports. Skytrax has been conducting this study on a yearly basis because 1999.
