MBRF Unveils Three Groundbreaking Literary Works at Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2025
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) announced the launch of three new literary publications during its participation in the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2025. Originating from the Foundation’s flagship initiative—the Dubai International Program for Writing (DIPW)—these works span the genres of fiction, humanitarianism, and emotional literature.
The newly published novels are the result of the DIPW’s Novel Writing workshop held in Jordan, aimed at developing and showcasing emerging Arab literary talent. Each novel reflects a distinctive narrative style and bold storytelling approach while addressing profound human experiences.
Literary Debuts by Rising Arab Authors
The first of the three titles, The Memory of Salt by Walaa Abazeid, tells the moving story of Ayoul, a young Syrian woman whose life is upended by war. The poetic narrative explores the emotional toll of displacement, grief, and survival, capturing the resilience of the human spirit amidst turmoil.
The Game of Seats, authored by Raghad Zayed, ventures into emotional literature, shedding light on the lingering effects of childhood trauma. Through the story of Fouad, the novel navigates themes of psychological healing, self-discovery, and the transformative power of therapy.
Meanwhile, The Men of the Chess Club by Saifuddin Mohammed presents a gripping psychological crime tale. Set on a dystopian island governed by a tyrannical regime, the novel follows a protagonist confined in a mysterious asylum overseen by a dubious doctor. As reality begins to unravel, the storyline explores the blurred lines between sanity and madness and the philosophical tension between power and freedom.
Empowering the Next Generation of Writers
The three novels are a testament to the depth of talent nurtured through DIPW’s comprehensive literary training, which includes practical instruction in character development, plot construction, and narrative style. Participants also benefit from mentorship by seasoned writers and literary experts, reinforcing MBRF’s commitment to shaping a new wave of Arab literary voices.
The MBRF’s support of young authors underscores its broader mission to cultivate knowledge-based creativity and contribute to the enrichment of Arab literature. The Foundation continues to pave the way for aspiring writers to make meaningful cultural contributions through original and thought-provoking content.
