Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi to host France-UAE forum for research and innovation
Under the patronage of the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Space, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (SUAD) will host the France-UAE Forum for Research and Innovation from 2 to 3 February 2026 at its campus in the capital.
The high-level forum is co-organised by the Embassy of France in the UAE and Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) — the applied research arm of the Advanced Technology Research Council — and the French National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology.
Shaping the future of AI, quantum and space research
The France-UAE Forum for Research and Innovation aims to co-design the next phase of artificial intelligence transformation in higher education, bringing together 100 leading French and Emirati researchers, universities, research centres, start-ups, technology companies, and key innovation stakeholders from both countries.
Discussions will focus on three strategic domains shaping the future of research and innovation: artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, and space.
The Forum will explore opportunities to advance research, modernise academic and business models, and institutionalise cross-sector collaboration between higher education institutions, industry, and government. In-depth technical sessions will enable subject-matter experts to identify high-impact, translational, and applied research collaborations aligned with industrial needs and national priorities, ensuring tangible outcomes that support innovation and economic growth.
Strengthening UAE–France strategic research ties
His Excellency Ibrahim Fikri, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for the Higher Education and Scientific Research Regulation and Governance Sector at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, said the Forum reflects the longstanding strategic partnership between the UAE and France.
He noted that such collaborations play a vital role in advancing the education ecosystem, supporting a knowledge- and innovation-based economy, and developing talent capable of meeting future labour market needs. He added that the UAE remains committed to strengthening research partnerships, fostering scientific excellence, and promoting knowledge exchange aligned with global best practices.
Bridging academia, industry and global innovation
Beyond academic cooperation, the Forum will place strong emphasis on industry engagement, encouraging meaningful partnerships between universities and the private sector. By welcoming participation from academia and industry beyond France and the UAE, the event establishes a global platform for knowledge exchange and innovation.
Prof. Nathalie Martial-Braz, Chancellor of Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, said the Forum reinforces SUAD’s role as a bridge between the French and Emirati research ecosystems and a platform for dialogue between academia, students, and industry.
She highlighted that artificial intelligence lies at the core of the University’s strategy, supported by initiatives such as the Sorbonne Center for Artificial Intelligence, the transformation of its Bachelor in Physics towards Quantum Physics, and the launch of new Master’s programmes in Artificial Intelligence and Statistics.
Aligning with national and global priorities
The Forum reflects French national priorities in AI, quantum technologies, and space, while underscoring the importance of the strategic partnership with the United Arab Emirates. It also strengthens links between research, higher education, and industry, promoting ethical, human-centred innovation.
The two-day agenda will feature panel discussions, expert presentations, lectures, networking sessions, and cultural activities, offering participants a comprehensive platform for collaboration and dialogue.
