Global Encounters Festival Opens in Dubai with a Powerful Message of Unity and Coexistence

Over 4,000 young artists and athletes from 50+ countries gather to celebrate shared humanity

The Global Encounters Festival 2025 was officially inaugurated in Dubai by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE’s Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, marking the start of a weeklong global celebration of culture, sports, and unity. Hosted by the Ismaili Community in the UAE, the event welcomed over 4,000 young artists and athletes from more than 50 countries and brought together over 25,000 Ismaili community members from around the world.

Held under the patronage of Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the festival runs from July 20 to 27 across various Dubai venues, including the Dubai World Trade Centre. It features a dynamic mix of cultural exhibitions, athletic competitions, artistic showcases, concerts, and interactive experiences aimed at fostering cross-cultural understanding.

In his keynote address at the opening ceremony, Sheikh Nahyan praised the UAE as a beacon of harmony and coexistence:

“You have assembled in Dubai under our country’s welcoming Arab tent that has sheltered a peaceful and innovative population at this global crossroads. This city and this country are showing the world that people from different nations, ethnicities, religions, and cultures can live and work together in peace and harmony, in an environment marked by understanding, respect, and shared values.”

He also underscored the universal language of sports and the arts, calling them powerful bridges between communities and nations:

“We in the UAE cherish the bridges that sports and the arts build between peoples and nations. They are important catalysts for peace, coexistence, and harmony in the world.”

Reflecting on his previous engagement with the Jubilee Games in 2016, Sheikh Nahyan acknowledged the festival’s evolution and its positive global impact:

“Its focus on arts and sports reminds us that accomplishment comes from effort and persistence, and that these fields promote joy, friendship, and goodwill.”

He commended the Ismaili community and its leadership under His Highness the Aga Khan for their commitment to global harmony.

“I congratulate the Prince Aga Khan Ismaili Council for the UAE. They allow us to express our admiration for the strong commitment and success of the Ismaili community in promoting peace, tolerance, and understanding in the world.”

The festival has transformed Dubai into a vibrant global platform for intercultural exchange, drawing together youth, families, and leaders who are united in their pursuit of a more inclusive and peaceful future.
