Inside Dubai’s Racing Club Where Horses Train for Million-Dollar Glory
As the first rays of dawn break over Meydan, the rhythmic sound of hooves fills the cool desert air. At the Dubai Racing Club (DRC), jockeys and trainers begin their day-long ritual — a symphony of discipline, speed, and grace that transforms champion horses into million-dollar athletes.
Each gallop, stride, and heartbeat is part of a meticulous training regime designed to build speed, stamina, and strength. Watching these magnificent creatures in motion is pure poetry — their hind legs propelling them forward, muscles rippling in rhythm, bodies suspended midair for a split second before landing with thunderous precision.
It’s this breathtaking connection between human and horse that visitors experience during the Dubai Racing Club’s Stable Tour — an immersive behind-the-scenes journey into the heart of equine excellence.
Behind the Scenes at Meydan
Hosted by the DRC team, KT Luxe joined a small group of guests for an early morning tour that offered rare access to the club’s stables and training facilities — the same grounds that nurture world-class contenders for the Dubai World Cup, one of the richest horse races in the world.
Located just metres away from the iconic Meydan Grandstand, the tour begins between the turf and dirt racetracks, where guests can interact with local jockeys as they prepare for morning drills.
The expansive Meydan Racecourse, inaugurated on March 27, 2010, houses seven stables — five for local breeders and two reserved for international teams that arrive ahead of the Dubai World Cup in March. Inside, visitors gain a close-up view of equine care, training, and the precision that defines championship preparation.
The Art of Horse Care
Every detail of a racehorse’s life is managed to perfection. Trainers explained how each horse’s diet — about 9–10 kilograms of premium combo feed daily, sourced from Zabeel Feed Mills — is tailored to optimise energy and recovery.
We watched farriers fit horseshoes with expert precision, learned about grooming routines, and discovered how wood shavings are carefully placed in stables to ensure comfort and cleanliness.
Feeding the horses is off-limits, but guests are encouraged to observe, photograph, and interact closely — a chance to appreciate their sheer athletic beauty up close. “You never know,” one trainer quipped, “the horse in your selfie might just be the next Dubai World Cup champion.”
A Morning to Remember
The experience concludes with a complimentary breakfast buffet, served overlooking the training track as horses gallop under the soft morning light. The sight of powerful thoroughbreds stretching out against the backdrop of Meydan’s grandeur creates an unforgettable moment of serenity and spectacle.
The Breakfast Stable Tour runs weekly on Wednesdays from 6:30am, priced at AED280 per adult and AED175 per child. Private tours are also available upon request.
