ABB augments Asset Performance Management solution with prognostic capabilities

Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, October 31, 2019: ABBs industry-leading Ellipse Asset Performance Management (APM) solution (part of the companys Digital Enterprise portfolio) has been enriched with strengthened prognostic capabilities. The new functionality enables customers to more accurately forecast when their critical assets are likely to fail and model alternate planning pathways. The new prognostic capabilities are a result of ABBs acquisition of the software company, Cassantec.

The advanced software analytics have been integrated into the ABB Ability Digital Enterprise portfolio and provides value to ABBs industrial customers spanning the power, transportation, telecommunications, natural-resources sectors and other asset-intensive industries.

Accurate forecasting of equipment failure and modeling alternative planning pathways
The Improved prognostic functionality has been gained through the integration of recently acquired software company Cassantecs analytics within the Digital Enterprise portfolio. New features include condition-based prognostic horizons and risk profiles with simulation capabilities that extends an operators monitoring and diagnostic capabilities into the future - from fleet level all the way to individual assets.

This industry-leading functionality drives business value by reducing downtime and avoiding property failure, reducing maintenance and operational costs. In addition, the prognostics functions deliver visual analysis functionality over explicit future time horizons, which greatly enhancing a companys ability to develop asset maintenance and conversion plans.

Cassantec software: proven track record in delivering millions of euros of cost savings
Cassantecs field-proven technology accurately predicted 99 percent of equipment failure over a 5-year period, and that this accuracy rate increases over time through the data-driven machine-learning capabilities of its software. For example, client operators of fossil-fueled power plants, Cassantec can provide annual savings of millions of euros per giga watt of Cassantec production capacity. In addition to improving business strategies and reputation, an additional benefit of the prognostics is to retain expert knowledge as the global industrial workforce matures.

Employees of Cassantec, based in Berlin and Zurich, joined ABBs Enterprise Software product group within its Power Grids business beginning in the third quarter of 2019.
