US Embassy in Abu Dhabi and Consulate General in Dubai Announce Closure Until Further Notice

The United States Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the United States Consulate General in Dubai have announced a temporary suspension of all operations amid the escalating regional conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

According to an official statement, both diplomatic facilities will remain closed until further notice following a directive from the US Department of State ordering the departure of non-emergency U.S. government employees from the UAE due to heightened security risks.

The missions clarified that passport and consular services — including visa processing — are currently suspended. For foreign passports already held by the mission, arrangements will be made to release them once security conditions allow.

The Embassy has urged members of the public not to approach the embassy or consulate premises under any circumstances. Updates regarding service resumption and safety guidance will be communicated through official channels.

Earlier advisories from the U.S. mission encouraged American citizens to leave the UAE via available flights or land borders with Oman and Saudi Arabia, which remain open. Those unable or unwilling to depart are advised to shelter in place, stay away from windows, and leave only to access essential supplies such as food, water, or medication.

The State Department has issued a broader travel warning urging U.S. citizens across multiple Middle East countries — including Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt, Lebanon, Oman, Iraq, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan, the West Bank, Gaza, Iran, Israel, Yemen, and the UAE — to depart immediately due to serious safety risks.

U.S. citizens in the UAE requiring assistance are instructed to complete the Crisis Intake Form once only, and to stay informed via official alerts through the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
