A group of 21 students from Germanys Hamburg School of Business Administration (HSBA) visited the University of Dubai (UD) on October 8, 2014 to gain an understanding of the economic and political strategy of Dubai with regard to the upcoming Expo 2020. As long time exchange partners, the two institutions utilized the opportunity to share ideas and strategies which Dubai might take before and after the Expo.

In a welcome note on the occasion, Dr. Issa Bastaki, President of University of Dubai, described the dynamism and innovativeness of the UAEs rulers, which have led Dubai and the UAE to unprecedented levels of progress. Dr. Bastaki added that the sheer determination to succeed has given Dubai a competitive advantage, making it a role model and pioneer of growth. During the address, Dr. Bastaki also spoke about University of Dubais course offerings, the prestigious accreditations it has gained and its relationship with the Dubai Chamber.

Dr. Kamyar Sarshar, faculty member from the College of Information Technology, who accompanied the students, outlined the tripartite partnership of HSBA, the business community and the student community, describing it as its formula of success since HSBAs founding in 2004.
Yousef Beydoun, Dubai Airports Head of Cargo & Logistics Control Authorities, spoke on the Focus & Strategy of Dubai Airports for Expo 2020. The presentation provided an overview of the developmental stages of Dubai in terms of infrastructure progress, and financial and investment opportunities. Beydoun also focused on the vital role of Logistics and Supply Chain in the delivery of goods and services, highlighting it as the backbone of Dubais economy.

Beydoun stressed on two fundamental points in Dubais success: the long term vision and determination of the rulers of the UAE to make things happen and the strategic location of the country which makes it a hub in the region. With such a powerful combination, Dubai has been able to reach remarkable heights of development, he said. Winning the Expo 2020 is one of the biggest accomplishments of Dubai, and hopes are high that it will achieve more successes in future, Beydoun added.
