HIMA Group expands footprint in China with new Shanghai office
HIMA Group has strengthened its presence in China with the official inauguration of its new Shanghai office, marking a significant milestone in the company’s long-term regional expansion strategy.
The new facility was inaugurated on 5 December during a ceremony followed by a Safety Symposium attended by customers, industry partners, and government representatives. The move reflects the company’s commitment to supporting China’s fast-growing industrial sectors with advanced functional safety and automation solutions.
Steffen Philipp, Managing Partner of HIMA Group, said the company values long-term partnerships in China, highlighting more than 23 years of successful operations and close collaboration with local customers and partners. Today, the company employs around 80 specialists across China, working in coordination with global teams.
The Shanghai office has been designed as a modern hub for innovation, technical collaboration, and customer engagement. It includes a new Customer Solutions Center to support expanded training and testing capabilities, as well as multifunctional meeting areas aimed at enhancing professional interaction with clients. The upgraded workspace is also intended to improve employee comfort and productivity.
Dr. Michael Löbig, Chief Financial Officer of HIMA Group, said the new office underlines the strategic importance of the Chinese market. Yao Zhou, General Manager for China, added that the facility is intended to serve as a base for delivering excellence from China to global markets.
During the Safety Symposium, HIMA’s senior leadership emphasized the growing role of digitalization and functional safety in strengthening industrial operations. Jörg de la Motte, Chief Executive Officer of HIMA Group, said China remains one of the company’s most important regions as it continues to support safer plant operations and value creation through digital transformation.
The symposium welcomed more than 100 participants and featured industry discussions under the theme “Smart Solutions for the Digitalized Process Industry.” External speakers from China Huanqiu, the Sino-German Intelligent Manufacturing Standardization Council, and BASF SIS shared insights on smart manufacturing and safety technologies. The event also showcased innovations in cybersecurity, engineering optimization, Advanced Physical Layer (APL), and digital lifecycle management.
As part of its sustainability strategy, the company used environmentally friendly and recyclable materials throughout the event and highlighted a range of green and safe technologies at dedicated booths.
The relocation builds on the company’s recent expansion with the opening of the HIMA Zhanjiang Service Center in Guangdong in 2024, supporting industrial clients in southeast China. Looking ahead, the company plans to invest further in local innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable technologies in alignment with its global environmental, social, and governance priorities.
