Etihad Rail Launches Second Edition of Global Rail Innovation Award with AED 1 Million Grant

Etihad Rail has announced the return of its prestigious Global Rail Innovation Award, now in its second edition, offering a substantial AED 1 million grant to foster transformative ideas in the fields of transport, mobility, and logistics. The initiative reflects Etihad Rail’s commitment to advancing intelligent infrastructure and strengthening the UAE’s global leadership in transport innovation.

Open to startups, academic institutions, technology firms, and innovators worldwide, the award seeks impactful solutions that address real-world challenges in rail and mobility. Submissions are now open and will close on July 31, 2025. Finalists and winners will be recognized during the Global Rail Transport Infrastructure Exhibition & Conference 2025, scheduled for September 30 to October 2 at the ADNEC Centre in Abu Dhabi.

Championing Innovation in Transport Infrastructure

The award promotes innovation in areas including rail efficiency, smart logistics, infrastructure safety, and predictive maintenance. Entries will be evaluated based on technical originality, scalability, commercial potential, and their alignment with global transport goals. Etihad Rail’s inclusive approach underscores its belief in cross-border collaboration to shape the future of sustainable transport.

Recognizing Global Achievements

The inaugural 2024 edition attracted over 75 submissions from around the globe, recognizing standout innovations such as:

  • CEMIT: A real-time system for monitoring ride comfort and rail infrastructure.

  • LTTS: An AI-based solution for detecting visible rail defects in real time.

  • SYSTRA: A digital twin platform for predictive modeling of railway infrastructure.

A Platform for Global Exposure

Winners and shortlisted entries will be featured during the GRTIEC 2025 conference, gaining exclusive exposure to a high-profile audience, including government officials, CEOs, investors, and transport industry stakeholders. Innovations will be showcased in technical sessions and panel discussions, providing participants opportunities for international collaboration and industry partnerships.
