Emirati Theater Set for a Powerful Comeback This Eid Al Adha with ‘One Thousand Nights and a Wedding’

Emirati theater is poised for a major revival as DXB LIVE, the experiential agency of Dubai World Trade Centre, announces two special performances of ‘One Thousand Nights and a Wedding’ by the Shabab Al Ahli Theatre Group on May 7 and 8, 2025. Scheduled during the festive Eid Al Adha celebrations, this production marks a pivotal moment in DXB LIVE’s mission to reinvigorate the Emirati cultural scene and promote local artistic talent.

This theatrical comeback is part of a broader vision, with DXB LIVE developing a robust calendar of Emirati theater performances throughout 2025. The initiative is designed to foster greater appreciation for Emirati arts and provide a powerful platform for young Emirati actors and creatives.

Blending Tradition with Modern Social Commentary

One Thousand Nights and a Wedding is an evocative fusion of comedy, drama, and music, celebrating time-honored Emirati traditions while exploring the complex realities of today’s youth. The play offers a thoughtful narrative that weaves ancient folklore with contemporary issues such as love, freedom, destiny, and equality. Through its richly layered storytelling and compelling performances, the production promises to both entertain and inspire audiences.

A Message That Transcends Borders

Khalid Al Hammadi, Executive Vice President of Dubai World Trade Centre, emphasized the significance of supporting homegrown talent within a diverse entertainment landscape.

“At DXB LIVE, we’re committed to showcasing Dubai’s multicultural spirit while ensuring strong representation for local Emirati talent. Our goal is to build a rich entertainment agenda that appeals to everyone—residents, visitors, and regional audiences alike,” he said.
“We’re not only spotlighting Emirati theater in Dubai but also preparing to take our performances to audiences across the Gulf, including Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Oman.”

Setting the Stage for Continued Success

DXB LIVE’s success in 2024 laid the groundwork for an even more dynamic 2025. Highlights from last year include sold-out performances by renowned comedian Omid Djalili and Indian indie artist Prateek Kuhad, which drew crowds of 2,000 and 2,500 respectively. Children’s theater also saw tremendous engagement, with over 6,000 young attendees across ten shows at Zabeel Theater, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray.

2025’s entertainment calendar continues this momentum, featuring major events such as:

  • A comedy show in January with nine Indian comedians attracting 3,800 attendees

  • A series of five magic shows by celebrity magician Rob Lake in March

  • Upcoming performances by six Filipino comedians on June 29

  • A concert by Indian musical icon Shreya Ghoshal on July 19

  • The children’s play Salama by the Shabab Al Ahli Theatre Group

  • A return performance by Omid Djalili on October 5

With an expansive and inclusive program, DXB LIVE is ensuring something for everyone—be it theater, music, comedy, or cultural showcases.

As the curtain rises on One Thousand Nights and a Wedding, it signals not just the return of Emirati theater but the beginning of a new era for local performing arts. Backed by institutional support and driven by passionate young talent, the future of Emirati theater is firmly in the spotlight.
