The Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai has reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to the rule of law, describing a strong and adaptable legislative framework as a key driver of justice, institutional reliability and economic development.
In a statement marking World Law Day on September 12, 2026, H.E. Dr. Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar, Secretary General of the Supreme Legislation Committee (SLC), highlighted the broader role of law in supporting equality, social development and the UAE’s competitiveness.
Law seen as foundation for sustainable development
Dr. Ahmad said World Law Day recognises the pivotal role of law as the foundation of societies based on justice and fairness, as well as a cornerstone of sustainable social development grounded in equality of rights and obligations.
He noted that the significance of law extends beyond the administration of justice, protection of rights and regulation of civil, criminal, administrative and personal matters.
According to the statement, the rule of law is also an important indicator of a country's competitiveness, institutional reliability and attractiveness for business and investment.
UAE highlights flexible legislative framework
The SLC Secretary General said the UAE's development has been supported by the vision and directives of its leadership, helping establish the country as a model for justice and equality.
He also highlighted the UAE's legislative system as flexible and comprehensive, capable of responding to current developments while anticipating future requirements.
The approach, he said, contributes to strengthening the country's continued progress and prosperity.
Dubai highlights legislative achievements
On World Law Day, the SLC said it takes pride in the UAE's achievements and milestones in legislative development.
These developments, according to the statement, have reinforced the country's position as a state founded on the rule of law and supported by strong institutions.
The committee also reaffirmed its commitment to advancing legal awareness and developing a more agile and proactive legislative framework.
Recognition for legal professionals
The SLC extended its appreciation to legal professionals across the UAE and around the world on the occasion.
