Motorists travelling through Al Qiyadah Intersection can expect smoother journeys during peak hours after Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) introduced a new lane and other traffic improvements along Al Ittihad Road.
The upgrades are designed to improve traffic movement towards Abu Hail and Salah Al Din Streets, with the RTA expecting waiting times at Al Qiyadah Intersection to decrease by up to 15 per cent during peak periods.
New Lane Added to Improve Traffic Flow
As part of the improvements, the RTA has introduced a new left-turn lane from Al Ittihad Road onto Abu Hail Street towards Salah Al Din Street.
The additional lane was created using some existing parallel parking spaces and part of the central median. The move is expected to increase traffic capacity at the intersection and improve connections between Al Ittihad Road and surrounding local roads.
The authority has also modified the intersection layout and recalibrated traffic signal timings to correspond with the new lane arrangement.
Al Qiyadah Intersection Gets Traffic Upgrades
Al Qiyadah Intersection is located along Al Ittihad Road, a major route connecting Dubai and Sharjah. The intersection also distributes traffic towards several key roads in Deira, including Abu Hail Street, Salah Al Din Street and Al Quds Street.
According to the RTA, the latest improvements are expected to reduce congestion on the approaches and exits of the intersection while lowering waiting times during busy periods.
The project also included paving and road rehabilitation works, improvements to pavements and modifications to concrete barriers associated with the revised traffic layout.
Signal Timings Recalibrated for New Road Layout
The RTA has adjusted traffic signal timings to match the new configuration and support a smoother flow of vehicles through the intersection.
By coordinating the signals with the additional lane, the authority aims to reduce delays and improve access to roads connecting Al Ittihad Road with surrounding areas.
The changes are particularly aimed at managing traffic more efficiently during peak periods, when Al Ittihad Road experiences significant commuter movement between Dubai and Sharjah.
New Parking Spaces Added Along Abu Hail Street
The road improvement project also includes additional parking spaces along Abu Hail Street.
Lighting poles have been installed at existing parking areas as part of efforts to make better use of available space and improve infrastructure around the area.
The combination of road, traffic signal and parking improvements is intended to enhance the overall functionality of the intersection and its surrounding streets.
Part of Dubai’s Wider Road Network Programme
The Al Qiyadah improvements form part of the RTA’s broader efforts to expand and upgrade Dubai’s road network in response to population growth and increasing traffic volumes.
The authority said such projects are intended to increase road capacity, address current traffic demand and prepare the transport network for future growth.
For Dubai-Sharjah commuters, the new lane and revised traffic arrangements are expected to provide a more efficient route through one of the key intersections along Al Ittihad Road, with peak-hour waiting times projected to fall by up to 15 per cent.
