Dubai Judicial Institute launches programme on negotiation skills and inheritance dispute resolution

The Dubai Judicial Institute (DJI), in cooperation with the Dubai Centre for Family Businesses under the umbrella of Dubai Chambers, has launched a specialised training programme titled “Negotiation Skills and Settlement of Family Disputes in the Distribution of Inheritances.”

The initiative reflects the directives of H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, and Chairman of the Dubai Judicial Council, to ensure the sustainability of family businesses across generations.

Supporting continuity of family businesses

Family enterprises are regarded as a vital pillar of Dubai’s economy, contributing significantly to sustainable investment and national prosperity. The new programme is designed to strengthen the competence of judicial cadres by equipping them with tools to manage inheritance-related disputes effectively, thereby safeguarding the continuity of family businesses.

Commencing on 9 September, the training targets selected judges from Dubai Courts. The curriculum, delivered by Adib Rashid, Director of the Dubai Centre for Family Businesses, is built on three key pillars:

  • The structure and dynamics of family businesses.

  • The underlying causes of disputes within such enterprises.

  • Governance frameworks and international best practices in managing family business conflicts.

Enhancing judicial capacity

H.E. Judge Dr. Ebtisam Ali Al Bedwawi, Director General of the Dubai Judicial Institute, emphasised that the programme aligns with the visionary outlook of H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

“This step marks a significant contribution to the judicial system’s efforts in enhancing the sustainability of family businesses. It embodies DJI’s mission to disseminate legal knowledge, raise the standards of judicial training, and reinforce Dubai’s global competitiveness,” she said.

Strengthening legal frameworks

H.E. Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, President and CEO of Dubai Chambers, highlighted the programme’s importance in safeguarding the role of family enterprises.

“Family businesses are a cornerstone of the national economy and a vital pillar of sustainable development. This programme strengthens the legal and regulatory framework that supports growth and continuity across generations, while protecting the legacy of national enterprises,” he stated.

Addressing inheritance disputes

Inheritance-related conflicts remain among the most pressing challenges facing family businesses worldwide. By providing judges with the skills to promote negotiated settlements and apply effective dispute resolution methods, the programme seeks to safeguard business integrity and ensure operational continuity.

The DJI initiative underscores its commitment to institutional excellence, operational efficiency, and future readiness. By offering advanced training aligned with international standards, the Institute continues to support judicial excellence and enhance Dubai’s position as a global hub for business and investment.
