Dubai Culture marks International Day of Older Persons

The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate's dedicated entity for heritage, arts and culture, hosted a banquet for a group of elderly Emirati citizens, at the Culture Village in Dubai in partnership with Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation, to commemorate the International Day of Older.

The initiative was also part of Dubai Culture's involvement in the annual 'In Our Hearts' campaign led by the UAE. The banquet was attended by HH Sheikha Fatima Bin Hasher Bin Dalmook Al Maktoum; HE Khalid Khalifa Al Tani, Deputy Secretary General of Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation; Dr. Salwa Al Suwaidi, Director of Family Development Centers; Dr. Saif Alibdwaoa; Saleh Al Hammadi, Director of Heritage Village, as well as a number of employees from Dubai Culture & Arts Authority and of Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation.

The workers of 'Dubai Culture' welcomed the seniors with their companions and served them Arabic coffee, dates, and traditional Emirati food. A series of amusing events were held by Dubai Culture consisting of traditional Emirati efficiencies, heritage tunes, henna illustrations and a display of local handicrafts.

After the banquet, a standard Majlis hosted the participants where the elderly shared their views and experiences with the staff members, and highlighted the ways of living in the UAE during the last decades. A documentary on the lifestyle of individuals staying in the UAE in 1950s was shown at the celebration.

"The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority partners on this occasion every year as part of its participation in the International Day of Older Persons and the national project 'In Our Hearts'. This effort is line with our vision to improve social development in the Emirate, and empower all sectors of the society, specifically, the senior, who worked close to our starting daddies, in contributing generously to the success and well-being of this nation," stated Saleh Al Hammadi, Director of Heritage Village.

"Dubai Culture is eager to promote dialogue with the elderly and gain their opinions and thoughts on the efforts put in to strengthen the nationwide identity and enhance the cultural scene of the Emirate," he included.
