In celebration of International White Cane Safety Day, the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), in collaboration with the Dubai Club for People of Determination, organised an awareness walk at Al Shindagha Historic Neighbourhood. The initiative aimed to highlight the importance of supporting and empowering visually impaired individuals and promoting inclusivity within the community.

Observed annually on October 15, White Cane Safety Day raises awareness about the rights and independence of people with visual impairments. The awareness walk forms part of Dubai Culture’s ongoing efforts to create a society that is inclusive and accessible to all, aligning with the Dubai Government’s ‘My Community… A City for Everyone’ initiative, which seeks to make Dubai a friendly city for People of Determination.

The event also reflected the Authority’s commitment to supporting People of Determination by helping them enhance their skills, engage with the cultural landscape, and actively contribute to the community. Through the collaboration with the Dubai Club for People of Determination, the awareness walk served to educate the public about the vital role of the white cane — a tool symbolising independence and self-reliance for the visually impaired.

Additionally, the initiative underscored the importance of ensuring accessible infrastructure and inclusive design across public and cultural spaces. Dubai Culture continues to implement innovative measures to equip its cultural and heritage sites with accessibility features that allow everyone to enjoy the emirate’s vibrant cultural offerings.

This initiative is part of the Authority’s broader mission to uphold the National Policy for Empowering People of Determination and strengthen Dubai’s position as a leading model of inclusivity, accessibility, and community engagement.
