Al Noor Island; Sharjah's new attraction.

Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) launched Al Noor Island as part of its commitment to setting the emirates status as a principal cultural, tourist and investment destination in the region.

The Dh80 million Noor Island in Khalid Lagoon was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah in December 2015.

The 45,470 square meter Island designed and developed to comprise landscaped areas, innovative architecture and multi-media experiences.
Distinctive lighting, the subtle lighting of island features with LEDs and other light fittings, bring the island to fantastic life at night.

Many art installations from around the world offer further entertainment for visitors, including the OVO, Torus and several light paintings visible after dark.

The island houses Butterfly House and has an ornamentally pierced shadow rooftop enthused by ornate Arab windows (mashrabiya) with the birdcage housing as many as 500 butterflies.

Butterfly species consist of the African Monarch (Danaus chrysippus), the Autumn Leaf (Doleschallia bisaltide) from India and the Common Rose swallow-tail butterfly (Pachliopta aristolochiae), which is found across South East Asia and is known for its bright colouration and unique design of its wings.
Visitors can also visit the Literature Pavilion, where they can relax, read, take in the beauty of nature around them. The island structures a 3,500 meter long pathway which takes visitors through the mini gardens to key facilities and view outdoor art fascinations.

The Island is reachable via an ornamental bridge situated behind the Al Noor Mosque, off Sharjahs Corniche Street.

Al Noor Island is open to the public from 9 am to 11 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 12 am on weekends. The Butterfly House shuts at 6pm.
