UAE businesses may need to rethink how they measure digital marketing performance as artificial intelligence increasingly influences how customers discover brands, compare services and make purchasing decisions, according to digital marketing firm ROSA eSolutions.
The Toronto-based company, which has a presence in Dubai, said traditional indicators such as website traffic, search rankings and last-click conversions may no longer provide a complete picture of a company's digital marketing performance.
With consumers increasingly using AI-powered search platforms to find recommendations, compare products and gather information, businesses can influence purchasing decisions without receiving an immediate website visit or being credited through conventional attribution models.
“The click remains important, but it no longer tells the full story,” said Robert Shakir, Senior Marketing Consultant at ROSA eSolutions.
According to Shakir, customers may discover a company through an AI-generated response, research it across multiple platforms and later return through a direct search or enquiry. This makes it increasingly important for businesses to understand the broader customer journey rather than focusing solely on the final interaction.
ROSA eSolutions recommends that companies connect digital marketing reporting more closely with business outcomes. These could include the quality of enquiries, qualified sales opportunities, customer acquisition costs, branded searches and the content that helps customers make purchasing decisions.
The shift could be particularly significant for industries with longer customer journeys, including professional services, healthcare, real estate and business-to-business services. Customers in these sectors often research multiple providers and consult several sources before making contact.
“Large traffic figures may look positive without necessarily creating business value,” Shakir said. “The more important question is whether digital activity is attracting the right audience, supporting informed decisions and generating meaningful opportunities.”
ROSA eSolutions said marketing measurement is likely to become a greater business priority as AI takes on a larger role in online discovery.
Businesses that adapt their reporting methods could gain a clearer understanding of which digital activities contribute to growth and where future marketing investment should be focused.
