The UAE is preparing itself to attend ' World Maritime Day 2019 ' in London.

In preparation for the activities of World Maritime Day 2019 to take place in London on September 26 the Federal Authority for Transport - Land and Maritime has revealed their preparation. The slogan of this year's event is' Empowering Women in Maritime Community,' focusing on increasing awareness about the significance of equality between women and men in the maritime industry. It will also provide a stimulus for females to participate in maritime employment, including administrations, port organizations and maritime education centers, in line with UN Sustainable Development Goals.

"Our involvement in this year is a significant complement for us, particularly as the event focuses on Women's important position in the international maritime industry," said Dr Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, the UAE Minister of Infrastructure Development and Chairman of the Federal Transport Authority for Land and the Maritime Authority. Women are an important element of the country's maritime society thanks to their pioneering abilities and capacity to become engaged in the maritime labor market. We aim to promote equality between men and women in all maritime sectors and decrease the gap between men and women. We consider females as a main partner in the growth of a contributing maritime industry, He added.

The UAE has produced quality accomplishments in improving the effectiveness, completeness, sustainable development, and security of the marine industry in particular, contributing to improve the performance of the industry as regards the growth of marine legislation and policies as well as to reinforce control over shipping businesses and maritime transport. Women were leading figures in the maritime industry, showing their presence and capacity to take on the most challenging duties and attain excellence and leadership in maritime job. Said H.E Al Nuaimi
"We are happy to be part of the International Event this year, in order to emphasize the significance of promoting and empowering females in the different maritime areas and giving them the knowledge they need to encourage and particularly to boost the maritime industry" Al Nuaimi added.

In 1988 a program for equality between the gender , the capacity-building and inclusion of females into the maritime industry was initiated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This programme, together with its role in allowing females to have access to maritime training and jobs within this essential industry, led to establishing an institutional framework in IMO policies and processes.
