HM King Mohammed VI Presides Over Launch of Safran Aircraft Landing Gear Plant in Morocco
His Majesty Mohammed VI presided over the presentation and launch ceremony of a major aircraft landing gear production plant to be built by the Safran Group in Nouaceur, reinforcing Morocco’s position as a competitive global industrial and aerospace hub.
The ceremony took place at the Royal Palace in Casablanca, in the presence of HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and senior government and industry officials. The new facility will be developed by Safran Landing Systems with a total investment exceeding €280 million.
Planned as one of the group’s largest landing gear manufacturing centres worldwide, the plant is expected to create around 500 jobs and will operate entirely on decarbonised energy. The project is also designed to attract additional suppliers and strengthen Morocco’s aeronautical ecosystem.
The future factory will be located within the integrated aerospace platform Midparc and will span more than seven hectares. It will provide advanced capabilities in precision machining, high-technology assembly, testing, certification, and maintenance. Production will primarily support landing gear systems for the Airbus A320 program and will use high-performance, modern production tools built to international standards.
Officials said the investment reflects continued royal support for Morocco’s industrial acceleration strategy and its ambition to strengthen integration into global value chains.
Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade, stated that Morocco has developed into a globally recognized aeronautical platform over the past two decades. He noted that Safran has been a strategic partner to the Kingdom for more than 25 years and plays a key role in moving the national aerospace sector up the value chain. He added that the new project demonstrates Morocco’s growing mastery of complex aerospace technologies and highlights opportunities for young Moroccan talent, with about 25,000 professionals already active in the sector.
Ross McInnes, Chairman of Safran, welcomed the expansion of the group’s footprint in Morocco and recalled the launch of an aircraft engine industrial complex last October under royal leadership. He said the new landing gear plant will help support increased A320 production rates while preparing for future aircraft generations.
The ceremony concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding formalizing the project.
