Second Annual India–Arab University Presidents Summit Opens at Ajman University
The Second Annual India–Arab University Presidents Summit opened at Ajman University, marking the first time the high-level higher education gathering has been hosted in the Arab region. The summit brings together university presidents, policymakers, and global education partners to strengthen cross-regional cooperation in research, innovation, and academic mobility.
Held under the patronage of Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of Ajman University’s Board of Trustees, the summit is centered on the theme “Impact Beyond Borders: Research, Innovation, and Mobility.” The event focuses on expanding institutional partnerships between India and Arab countries in higher education and workforce development.
The summit is organized in partnership with the Association of Arab Universities, the League of Arab States, India’s University Grants Commission, and the Government of India, alongside global education companies including Ellucian and McGraw Hill.
In opening remarks, Ajman University Chancellor Karim Seghir said universities must play an active role in shaping economic and technological transformation by scaling applied research, strengthening international collaboration, and aligning skills-based learning with real-world needs.
Senior regional and diplomatic representatives addressed the summit, highlighting the need for coordinated academic frameworks, stronger research ecosystems, and structured cross-border collaboration. Speakers emphasized that deeper academic ties between India and the Arab world can support long-term economic and societal impact.
A central feature of the event was a presidential roundtable co-chaired by Ajman University and Symbiosis International University leadership, convening nearly 50 university heads. Discussions focused on leadership accountability, employability outcomes, curriculum redesign, micro-credentials, and industry-integrated learning models aimed at improving graduate workforce readiness.
Participants also examined how universities can expand artificial intelligence and digital transformation initiatives across institutions, while ensuring research agendas remain locally relevant and globally competitive. Equity in access to innovation and education was highlighted as a priority theme.
A featured fireside discussion included senior representatives from QS Quacquarelli Symonds and O.P. Jindal Global University, focusing on governance models for international partnerships, joint research clusters, and industry-linked academic programs.
The summit concluded its first day with bilateral meetings and partnership signings, resulting in more than 20 memoranda of understanding between participating institutions. Organisers said the agreements reflect a focus on measurable outcomes and long-term collaboration rather than dialogue alone.
Officials noted that the summit positions Ajman University as a regional platform for education-policy dialogue and reinforces the expanding role of universities as drivers of cross-border innovation and development.
