The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property Seizes Computer Stores that Violate IP Rights With the participation of the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and the General Directorate of Public Security

Riyadh: The Saudi Commission for Intellectual Property has launched an extensive inspection campaign aimed at capturing computer stores that infringe on intellectual property rights, notably the Copyright Protection Act recently.

SAIP pointed out that the seizures focused on desktop computers, laptops, various storage devices, and computer programs loaded with works that violate intellectual property systems, as it seeks to capture and reduce them to motivate service providers' to serve the relevant needs of individual consumers and to increase the level of service available to them.

SAIP has previously warned against promoting and selling any material that violates intellectual property rights or intellectual property rules, based on the functions and capabilities transferred to the authority in accordance with its regulations, and imposes legal penalties for such violations. Affirming that It will not tolerate penalties in this regard, but rather the effective enforcement of intellectual property rights, particularly in regard to software, literary and artistic works and trademarks. The Enforcement Stage of respecting Intellectual Property Rights follows a number of awareness campaigns with the relevant authorities of the Authority to raise awareness of the respect for intellectual property rights and penalties imposed by the regulations.

Completion of SAIP's ongoing efforts to protect intellectual property rights, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and the General Directorate of Public Security, The campaign found some computer stores in Riyadh that were found to be using computer programs that violate intellectual property rights, which are prohibited from being exploited or promoted in any form. In order to reduce the spread of these types of violations that the entire world is experiencing, illegal devices have been seized to enforce appropriate penalties.

SAIP stressed that we will not tolerate violation of laws and regulations relating to IPR violation.
