MoHESR launches Future Skills workshops to boost readiness for labour market needs
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) has launched a nationwide series of Future Skills workshops aimed at preparing the higher education sector for rapidly evolving labour market demands. The initiative seeks to align academic programmes with priority economic sectors while equipping students with essential competencies needed for future job roles, thereby strengthening the national talent pipeline.
First Workshop Engages UAE Universities
The first interactive workshop, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Dubai, brought together 21 representatives from 11 higher education institutions across the UAE. Participants discussed critical future skills and explored the need to redesign academic curricula to reflect advancements in artificial intelligence, renewable energy, cybersecurity, advanced technology and the Internet of Things (IoT).
MoHESR noted that modernising programme structures is key to ensuring graduates remain competitive in technology-driven sectors.
Workshops Target Students and Parents
The Future Skills series will expand to include upcoming sessions tailored for students, aiming to increase their awareness of future career paths and help them acquire high-demand skills.
Additionally, dedicated workshops will be held for parents of high school students, offering guidance on future-focused specialisations that align with national development priorities and emerging economic trends.
Building a National Future-Skills Roadmap
MoHESR’s initiative forms part of a broader national effort to co-create a future-skills roadmap in collaboration with higher education institutions, government entities and major economic and social sectors.
The goal is to build a flexible and integrated system capable of producing competitive national talent equipped to meet the requirements of the UAE’s future economy, particularly as technological and industrial transformations continue to accelerate.
