Hilton Dubai Jumeirah and Hilton Dubai The Walk Promote Inclusive Hospitality Through Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Initiative
Hilton Dubai Jumeirah and Hilton Dubai The Walk have officially launched the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower initiative, reinforcing their commitment to creating a more inclusive and accessible hospitality experience for all guests.
The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is an internationally recognized symbol designed to discreetly indicate that someone has a non-visible disability and may require additional support, understanding, or time. Conditions may include autism, anxiety, sensory sensitivities, chronic pain, or other invisible health challenges. Participating guests can wear a green Sunflower lanyard, badge, or bracelet—available at no cost from the front desk or concierge—to signal their needs.
To ensure an informed and compassionate response, all frontline staff at both Hilton properties have undergone comprehensive training on how to recognize the Sunflower symbol and respond with empathy and care. Staff members who have completed this training wear a distinctive white "Sunflower Supporter" badge, signifying their readiness to offer support when needed.
Educational posters and information about the initiative are placed in visible guest areas, and Sunflower items are available for any guest or team member wishing to wear them. The program offers a discreet communication method that empowers guests to seek support without having to explain their condition or face uncomfortable questions. Staff may assist by using clear communication, allowing more time, or simply offering a kind and considerate approach.
“We’re proud to help lead the rollout of the Sunflower programme at our hotels. This initiative allows us to better understand and support guests and team members with hidden disabilities, making sure everyone feels welcome, respected, and understood,” said Gisele Clark, Hotel Manager, Hilton Dubai The Walk.
Both hotels are also among the first Hilton properties in the UAE to receive certification from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). In collaboration with Dubai Economy and Tourism, this milestone further demonstrates the hotels' commitment to accessibility and enhancing the travel experience for guests with a range of needs.
Through this initiative, Hilton Dubai Jumeirah and Hilton Dubai The Walk aim to ensure that every guest—regardless of visible or invisible challenges—feels acknowledged, supported, and respected during their stay. The hotels encourage guests to participate in the initiative and contribute to making invisible disabilities more visible.
