Etihad Rail reveals details of the UAE’s full passenger railway network ahead of 2026 launch
Etihad Rail has unveiled comprehensive details of the UAE’s national passenger railway network, marking a significant milestone ahead of the planned launch of the first phase of passenger train services in 2026. The project represents the country’s first fully integrated national passenger railway system, designed to enhance connectivity and mobility across the Emirates.
The passenger rail network will link 11 cities and regions through strategically located stations, providing a safe, reliable and efficient mode of transport for citizens, residents and visitors. Stations across the network will be rolled out in phases throughout 2026, covering Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah, Al Sila’, Al Dhannah, Al Mirfa, Madinat Zayed, Mezaira’a, Al Faya and Al Dhaid.
Earlier, in 2025, Etihad Rail announced the first four passenger stations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah. The newly revealed stations complete the planned national network and underscore the company’s long-term vision to strengthen inter-emirate connectivity.
Commenting on the announcement, Azza AlSuwaidi, Deputy CEO of Etihad Rail Mobility, said preparations for the 2026 launch reflect the UAE leadership’s vision to develop an integrated transport ecosystem that supports economic growth and social cohesion.
She noted that the passenger rail network will play a central role in the country’s transport infrastructure, building on Etihad Rail’s experience in operating the national freight rail service since 2023. AlSuwaidi highlighted that the project is the result of close collaboration among national partners and stakeholders, supported by Emirati talent and global best practices, and reinforced by advanced technologies and a next-generation train fleet.
According to Etihad Rail, the trains will feature a distinctly Emirati identity while serving as a long-term investment in sustainable, people-centred mobility. The network is expected to boost domestic tourism, strengthen national cohesion and enhance overall quality of life.
Passengers can expect a comfortable and modern travel experience, with trains offering ergonomic seating, contemporary interiors, full Wi-Fi connectivity and individual power outlets at every seat. Services will operate on a precise schedule, providing a reliable and congestion-free alternative to road travel and reducing journey times between major cities.
Eng. Mohammed Alshehii, Chief Projects Officer at Etihad Rail, confirmed that passenger services will officially launch in 2026. In its first phase, the network will connect 11 carefully selected cities and areas, including Mohammed Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi, Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, University City in Sharjah and the Al Hilal area in Fujairah.
Alshehii added that 10 of the 13 trains in the fleet have already arrived and have undergone rigorous testing and certification to meet the highest international safety and quality standards. Each train can carry up to 400 passengers and will be operated using advanced systems to ensure reliability and security. Stations will also be integrated with other modes of transport to support seamless journeys.
Highlighting the scale of the project, Alshehii said the achievement is the result of three years of intensive planning, design and delivery, involving more than 7,000 experts and workers and accounting for approximately 24.5 million working hours.
Beyond mobility, Etihad Rail expects the passenger railway network to deliver wide-ranging national benefits, including reduced emissions, stronger social and economic ties between the Emirates and a more connected and accessible UAE.
