The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will host a special edition of the Knowledge Summit on November 24 at Grand Hyatt Dubai.
Held under the theme “Knowledge: Navigating Crises in a Changing World,” the event will examine the evolving global knowledge landscape, highlight achievements in knowledge development and explore how knowledge systems can support societies in responding to crises and future transformations.
The announcement was made during a press conference at MBRF’s Dubai headquarters attended by Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF, and Dr Hany Torky, Chief Technical Advisor and Project Manager of the Knowledge Project at UNDP.
Knowledge Summit to honour award winners
The special edition will recognise the winners of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Award (MBRKA) for their contributions and achievements across different fields of knowledge.
The event will also mark the launch of the Global Knowledge Index (GKI) 2026, with organisers set to review its key findings and the latest trends shaping knowledge and development.
The MBRKA is one of MBRF’s initiatives aimed at recognising individuals and organisations for contributions to knowledge, as well as initiatives and practices that help disseminate and apply knowledge to support communities and development.
Global Knowledge Index to highlight emerging trends
The GKI tracks the state of knowledge and development through a range of data and indicators, helping identify performance trends, challenges and opportunities.
Dr Hany Torky said the experience of previous crises showed that a country's ability to respond depends not only on its resources but also on the strength of its knowledge systems, human capital, technology and innovation capabilities.
He said the 2026 edition of the index would go beyond measuring country performance by identifying strengths and gaps that could help inform policies and investment priorities.
Full Knowledge Summit returns in April 2027
The special edition in November will precede the 11th edition of the Knowledge Summit, which is scheduled to take place in April 2027.
The 2027 event will feature panel discussions and in-depth sessions bringing together experts, policymakers, decision-makers and specialists from around the world.
Discussions will focus on how knowledge can help societies navigate transformations and crises, anticipate future developments and develop approaches that support sustainable development.
Dubai to bring global knowledge leaders together
Jamal bin Huwaireb said the special format of this year's summit would allow MBRF to celebrate knowledge achievements while examining developments in the global knowledge landscape.
He said the April 2027 edition would provide a broader platform for discussions on the future of knowledge and development, with participation from government, the private sector, academic institutions and young people.
The organisers said the initiative would also highlight Dubai and the UAE's experience in using knowledge and anticipating future trends as part of wider development efforts.
