Dubai Metro Blue Line Construction Commences; Traffic Rerouting Underway in Mirdif
Construction work on Dubai’s new Metro Blue Line has officially started, leading to increased traffic congestion in parts of Mirdif and nearby areas. With heavy machinery and road closures in place, commuters are advised to follow rerouted paths and consider alternative routes to avoid delays during peak hours.
The Blue Line will stretch over 30 kilometers, covering 14 stations — including 3 interchange stations — and will connect International City and Dubai Silicon Oasis to areas like Al Rashidiya, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Al Jaddaf. This new line is expected to serve high-density residential zones and improve connectivity in eastern Dubai.
Once completed, the total length of the Dubai Metro network will exceed 131 kilometers, further strengthening the city’s public transport system. Since its launch on September 9, 2009, the Dubai Metro has carried out over 2.4 billion passenger trips, solidifying its role as a key pillar of urban mobility in the UAE.
