The unveiling of the DRHC Breast Care unit, which is now fully operational, compliments the specializations on offer at the out-patient facility, which offers surgeries and procedures across General Medicine, Plastic Surgery, Urology, ENT and Orthopaedics among others. The launch of the new unit coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign which is observed worldwide in October every year.

Breast cancer is also one of the most common cancers among UAE female population. Recent studies show the incidence of breast cancer has risen by 20 per cent over the past six years in the country.

Mammography is particularly important in the detection of Breast Cancer, as it can detect cancers which are too small to be felt by physical examination. Research has shown that routine mammography detects 40 per cent of cancers not found by physical examination, thus reducing the death rate from breast cancer by 30 per cent.
