" This was a dream project-- with a lot of stress. The Ford GT40 is among the most renowned race cars of of all time, and the new Ford GT is simply incredible," said Craig Callum, head of design, LEGO Speed Champions. "Designed for children, however with grown-ups followers in mind too, we understand these models will certainly be very closely looked at for authenticity.".

Callum, who in his leisure races a Ford Version A hot-rod, and started out as a developer of full-sized cars, helped develop 10 models before the final versions of each model were chosen, all created from existing LEGO bricks.
