Burjeel Holdings delivered a strong financial performance during the first half of 2026, reporting a 97.4% increase in net profit before one-off items to AED 227 million, supported by rising patient volumes, improved operational efficiency, and the continued expansion of its healthcare network.

The Abu Dhabi-listed healthcare provider recorded revenue of AED 2.79 billion for the six months ended June 30, representing a 4.4% year-on-year increase, while patient visits climbed 9.9% to more than 3.7 million.

Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA), excluding one-off items, rose 24.6% to AED 517 million, reflecting stronger operating performance across the group.

Strong Second-Quarter Momentum

Burjeel said performance accelerated during the second quarter as demand for elective and complex medical procedures recovered.

Quarterly revenue increased 3.7% year-on-year to AED 1.46 billion, while patient visits grew 12.4%. Net profit before one-off items more than doubled to AED 171 million, compared with AED 76 million during the same period last year. Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter rose 35% to AED 316 million.

Rising Demand Across Specialised Healthcare

The group's outpatient visits increased 10% during the first half and 12.5% in the second quarter, driven by growing demand for family medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, fertility treatments, and advanced diagnostic services.

Inpatient volumes rose 7.2%, supported by higher activity in oncology, cardiology, gastroenterology and the recovery of high-acuity elective surgeries.

Burjeel performed 24,610 surgeries during the second quarter, marking a 7.4% increase compared to the previous year.

Across its network of 1,784 beds, occupancy averaged 69%, while the number of physicians expanded to 1,801.

Commenting on the results, Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Burjeel Holdings, said:

"Accelerating patient activity during the second quarter has further reinforced our confidence in the structural demand for high-quality, specialised healthcare across the region."

Hospitals and Medical Centres Deliver Higher Earnings

Burjeel's hospitals division, which contributed 89% of total group revenue, generated AED 2.5 billion in revenue during the first half, up 5.4% year-on-year.

Adjusted EBITDA from hospitals increased 21.1% to AED 562 million, with margins improving to 22.5%.

Burjeel Medical City recorded particularly strong growth, with second-quarter EBITDA rising 58.3% and achieving a record 26.3% EBITDA margin, driven by increased volumes of complex procedures.

Meanwhile, revenue from the group's medical centres grew 8.4% to AED 248 million, while adjusted EBITDA surged 56.2% to AED 28 million as more than 15 recently launched facilities continued to scale operations.

Cash Flow and Balance Sheet Strengthen

Burjeel also reported significant improvements in cash generation during the first half.

Operating cash flow increased 76.8% to AED 405 million, while free cash flow rose 36.4% to AED 354 million. Net leverage remained stable at 1.8x, despite continued investments in expansion.

In July, the company successfully completed its inaugural US$500 million sukuk issuance under its US$1.5 billion programme. The offering was 3.2 times oversubscribed, with 61% allocated to international investors. The proceeds were primarily used to refinance existing debt, including the repayment of AED 1.6 billion in bank facilities.

Expansion Continues

During the reporting period, Burjeel expanded its footprint with the opening of a new medical centre in Dubai Silicon Oasis and a flagship Tajmeel aesthetics and wellness centre in Jumeirah.

The healthcare group also strengthened its specialised clinical services by advancing oncology and transplant programmes, including liver and deceased-donor kidney procedures, while expanding partnerships focused on medical research, physician training and corporate healthcare solutions.
