UAE passenger train route unveiled: Etihad Rail map showcases 900-km network across deserts and mountains
A detailed map of the 900-km Etihad Rail network was unveiled at the Global Rail conference in Abu Dhabi, revealing a route that will connect key passenger stations, freight terminals, and operational depots across the Emirates.
The landmark network stretches from the golden dunes of Abu Dhabi to the dramatic landscapes of the Hajar Mountains in Fujairah, offering passengers an experience that combines speed, comfort, and stunning scenery.
“It was a very proud moment riding the train in the UAE,” said Azza Al Suwaidi, Deputy CEO at Etihad Rail Mobility, recalling her journey during a test ride. “There’s a lot of nice scenery of the dunes and the desert. When you go to Fujairah, there is a path that runs through the Hajar Mountains. It’s a very lovely experience.”
Al Suwaidi highlighted the convenience of train travel compared to road commutes: “On the road, you get stuck in congestion, which can be stressful. On the train, it’s smooth, user-friendly, and allows you to utilise your time in a better way.”
The three-day Global Rail conference, which began in Abu Dhabi on Monday, gathered international rail leaders and featured key agreements and advanced technologies. At the Etihad Rail stand, a prototype of the UAE’s first passenger train and automated fare barriers attracted large crowds.

The newly displayed map divides the network into operations and maintenance depots, freight terminals, and passenger stations.
-
In Abu Dhabi, the line begins at the Ghuweifat freight terminal and nearby Sila passenger station, extending to Al Dhanna station, Ruwais Island, and the Ruwais Port freight terminal.
-
Further inland, it branches towards Habshan freight terminal, with Madinat Zayed and Mezzerah passenger stations. Along the coast, the line links to Abu Dhabi passenger station, Industrial City freight terminal, and Khalifa Port freight terminal.
-
After passing the Al Faya depot, the network enters Dubai, connecting to freight terminals at Dubai Industrial City and Jebel Ali Port, with a passenger station near Al Maktoum Airport.
-
Moving north, the route includes Sharjah Passenger Station, Al Dhaid Station, and freight hubs at Al Ghayl and Siji, before reaching Fujairah Passenger and Freight Stations.
-
The network will also extend across the border to Oman, linking to the Sohar freight facility and Al Buraimi aggregate facility.
The unveiling of the map represents another milestone in the UAE’s vision to deliver modern, efficient, and interconnected rail transport that transforms mobility and strengthens regional connectivity.
