UAE Names First AI Child: ‘Latifa’ Introduces Her Virtual Emirati Family

The UAE has officially named its first-ever AI-powered Emirati child, “Latifa,” following a public voting process organized by Digital Dubai. Nearly 14,000 people participated in the initiative, reflecting strong community engagement with the project.

Latifa emerged as the winning name with 43 per cent of the votes, ahead of “Mira” with 37 per cent and “Dubai” with 20 per cent.

The AI character, designed to embody Emirati traditions with a modern outlook, was introduced alongside her virtual family members: her father Mohammed, mother Salama, and brother Rashid. Together, they form the first digital family inspired by Emirati values, aimed at fostering inclusivity and digital literacy across diverse community segments.

Latifa and her family will serve as “digital ambassadors,” connecting with children and families through interactive storytelling and educational content. Their role extends to promoting responsible digital behavior while encouraging dialogue around artificial intelligence and technology in everyday life.

This initiative is part of Digital Dubai’s wider efforts under the “Year of the Community” declared by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The virtual family will soon be visible across social media platforms, where they will spotlight Dubai’s digital transformation journey and reinforce safe online practices.

By blending cultural heritage with advanced technology, the project highlights the UAE’s commitment to positioning itself as a global leader in digital innovation and community-driven AI initiatives.
