The Institute for Quality of Life has released its annual Happy City Index, spotlighting the world’s ten happiest cities for 2025. Drawing from factors such as governance, environment, economy, health, citizen engagement, and mobility, the index provides a holistic view of what makes a city truly joyful.

Leading the global happiness rankings this year is Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital, which continues to prioritize sustainability, safe environments, and high-quality public services for its 1.4 million residents.

Zurich, Switzerland, follows in second place, bolstered by high income levels and strong economic infrastructure, while Singapore rounds out the top three, praised for its robust job market and low unemployment rate despite high living costs.

Here are the top 10 happiest cities in the world in 2025, according to the Happy City Index:

While European cities dominate the rankings, several Asian metropolises also secured positions, highlighting the global diversity of what constitutes a “happy” urban lifestyle.
