Etihad Rail Construction: Temporary Closure of Sharjah Road Announced from August 9 to 11
The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has announced a temporary road closure in Sharjah to facilitate ongoing construction for the Etihad Rail project, which is set to connect all seven emirates and extend to neighbouring Gulf countries upon its expected launch in 2026.
The closure will affect University Road and the Distributor Road towards Sharjah at Al Badi Bridge from 12:00 am on August 9 until 11:00 am on August 11. Authorities confirmed that traffic will be diverted through the Al Siyouh Suburb Tunnel towards Eastern Maliha Road to minimise disruption for motorists.
The Etihad Rail network, which has already confirmed two passenger stations, is expected to significantly reduce travel times and provide a new level of connectivity across the UAE and beyond. Authorities are coordinating closely to manage traffic flow and ensure commuter safety during construction works.
Motorists are advised to follow posted diversion signs and allow extra travel time during the closure period.
