UAE and Japan Strengthen Industrial Cooperation in AI, Robotics and Advanced Manufacturing
The UAE and Japan are seeking to deepen cooperation in industrial technology, artificial intelligence and scientific research following a working visit by the UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) to Japan.
The visit, which included engagements in Tokyo and Kyoto, focused on strengthening industrial partnerships and translating scientific advances into practical applications that improve productivity, manufacturing quality and sustainability.
The UAE delegation was led by Hasan Jasem Al Nowais, Undersecretary of MoIAT, who participated in the UAE–Japan Technology and Artificial Intelligence Roundtable in Tokyo and the 23rd Science and Technology in Society Forum Ministerial Roundtable in Kyoto.
UAE and Japan Explore Advanced Industrial Technologies
Discussions in Tokyo focused on expanding industrial partnerships and accelerating the adoption of advanced technologies across manufacturing.
Areas of cooperation included artificial intelligence, robotics, automation, digital manufacturing and precision manufacturing. These technologies are expected to support more efficient production processes, improve quality control and strengthen industrial competitiveness.
The discussions also explored opportunities to connect technology providers with manufacturers to develop solutions that address operational requirements and deliver measurable improvements across industrial facilities.
Scientific Research to Support Real-World Manufacturing
In Kyoto, the delegation focused on strengthening links between academic research and industry, with an emphasis on translating scientific discoveries into practical manufacturing applications.
The discussions highlighted opportunities to bring researchers, technology developers and manufacturers closer together to address factory-level requirements and production challenges.
The approach aims to bridge the gap between research and commercial deployment, enabling promising innovations to move beyond laboratories and into industrial environments.
Factory Forward UAE to Accelerate Technology Adoption
The UAE's industrial ecosystem provides a platform for companies to test, deploy and scale technology-driven solutions.
Through its Factory Forward UAE initiative, MoIAT seeks to connect technology providers with manufacturers, helping industrial businesses identify and adopt solutions suited to their operational needs.
Potential applications include using artificial intelligence for quality inspection and predictive maintenance, alongside workforce skills development and broader efforts to accelerate advanced technology adoption.
The initiative is intended to turn international partnerships into pilot projects and practical industrial outcomes.
UAE-Japan Partnership to Enhance Industrial Competitiveness
Hasan Jasem Al Nowais, Undersecretary of MoIAT, said the UAE-Japan economic relationship was built on longstanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
“This partnership offers significant opportunities to deepen industrial and technological collaboration, exchange expertise, foster innovation and enhance industrial competitiveness,” Al Nowais said.
He also emphasised the importance of establishing direct partnerships between technology providers and UAE manufacturers to develop pilot projects and deploy advanced industrial solutions.
Such cooperation could help manufacturers improve operational efficiency while building the capabilities required to adopt emerging technologies at scale.
International Partnerships Support UAE Industrial Growth
The UAE's international partnerships and Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPAs) provide manufacturers with opportunities to access international markets and strengthen cross-border commercial relationships.
By combining technology collaboration with market access, the UAE aims to support industrial development and encourage businesses to adopt innovative solutions that improve productivity and competitiveness.
Cooperation with Japanese companies could create further opportunities for knowledge exchange, industrial investment and the deployment of advanced manufacturing technologies.
Japanese Companies Invited to Make it in the Emirates 2027
The visit concluded with an invitation to Japanese companies, investors and industrial leaders to participate in Make it in the Emirates 2027, scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi from May 3 to 6.
The event is expected to provide a platform for industrial stakeholders to explore investment opportunities, establish partnerships and discuss the adoption of advanced technologies across the UAE's manufacturing sector.
The invitation forms part of the UAE's wider efforts to strengthen international industrial cooperation and attract technology-driven investment.
