SLC releases first issue of the Official Gazette of the Government of Dubai in Braille to enrich the knowledge of people of determination with visual impairment

Dubai, 11 March 2019 - In support of national efforts towards the effective integration of people of determination into society, the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC) has published a special issue of the Official Gazette of the Government of Dubai, which contains Law No. (8) of 2018 Concerning Management of the Government of Dubai Human Resources, in Braille. The move comes as part of cooperation with TAMKEEN, a centre operating under the aegis of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

The initiative, which is the first of its kind, aims to make the law available to Dubai government employees who have a visual impairment, in line with the SLCs commitment to enabling them access relevant legislation to know their employment rights and enrich their legislative knowledge.

The new initiative was launched after the SLC conducted a survey involving Government of Dubai employees with visual impairment, and many of them expressed their desire to obtain the Human Resources Management Law in Braille. In response to the outcomes of the survey, the SLC has provided the text of the legislation published in the Official Gazette of the Government of Dubai in a format compatible with audio-reader software and applications, which allows persons with visual impairment to access all legislation published in the Official Gazette through their smartphones.
