Saudi German Hospital Jeddah Becomes First Hospital Outside the U.S. to Earn Magnet Recognition with Distinction

In a groundbreaking achievement for global healthcare, Saudi German Hospital (SGH) Jeddah has become the first and only hospital outside the United States to earn Magnet Recognition with Distinction, awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This top-tier international honor represents the highest level of excellence in nursing performance, patient care quality, and healthcare leadership.

The recognition sets a new global benchmark and highlights the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s growing leadership in healthcare excellence. Magnet with Distinction is awarded only to healthcare institutions that surpass the world’s most rigorous standards in patient outcomes, nursing leadership, and innovation in care delivery.

“This is a proud moment for Jeddah and for our entire Saudi German Health family,” said Makarem Sobhi Batterjee, Vice Chairman of Saudi German Health. “To be the first and only hospital outside the USA to earn Magnet Recognition with Distinction is an extraordinary achievement. It honors the incredible people behind our vision — our nurses, caregivers, and healthcare teams — whose daily commitment enables us to deliver world-class care.”

Dr. Ahmed Shebl, Group CEO of Saudi German Health, emphasized the transformative impact of this recognition:

“Earning Magnet Recognition with Distinction places us among the most elite hospitals globally. It reflects a culture of relentless pursuit of healthcare innovation and excellence.”

Ms. Iman El Kouwatly, Group Chief Nursing Officer, highlighted the personal significance of the honor for the hospital’s nursing team:

“Being recognized with Distinction validates the heart, skill, and dedication our nurses bring to every patient interaction. Under the leadership of Eng. Ahmed El Banna, CEO of SGH Jeddah, and Ms. Hadia Al Tabsh, CNO of SGH Jeddah, our nurses live by our philosophy of ‘caring like family.’

The Magnet Recognition Program is globally regarded as the gold standard for nursing excellence. Magnet-designated hospitals consistently demonstrate superior patient outcomes, higher patient and staff satisfaction, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

This latest accolade adds to Saudi German Health’s expanding legacy, with SGH Aseer and SGH Riyadh also achieving Magnet designation. Together, these institutions reinforce the group’s commitment to delivering innovative, compassionate, and high-quality care throughout the Kingdom and beyond.
