The RIPE Network Coordination Centre (NCC), together with Data Consult, recently collected the key stakeholders in the Lebanese banking sector for an important roundtable conversation on safe banking and Internet banking resiliency.

Titled How resilient is your Internet banking?, the event which happened in Beirut, Lebanon, comes with a time when banks and other banks in the country and various other components of the world are coming to be significantly dependent on on-line information technology (IT) systems for smooth business procedures, high performance, and improved customer experience. Global banks and financial institutions are under immense stress to ensure a stable, protected and resilient access to the Internet provided the potentially substantial prices of failing to do so.

"Being disconnected from the Internet is considered a catastrophic event by the banking industry. Thus, it has ended up being exceptionally vital for banks to establish complete network resiliency along with full autonomy in data transmitting. During the roundtable session attended by professionals from the RIPE NCC and senior executives from the Lebanese banking sector, we meticulously studied various methods to accomplish these goals. Steps towards these objectives included getting their very own Internet Number Resources for their networks, the relevance of multi-homing their network and Internet traffic flows, and dealing with danger on the network such as dispersed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, filtering and malware," said Paul Rendek, Director of External Relations at the RIPE NCC.

"Through this roundtable session and similar occasions that we arrange, we verify our commitment to deal with our participants and Internet community in the Arab region to advancement Internet growth resolving the concerns and demands connected to this sector that focused on resiliency and safety", Rendek added.

" In the evolving threat landscape, the fortress-approach to safety and security mishandles, we need to focus our attention to be connection-specific and construct our defenses from top to bottom. With software-defined architectures, networking is also being recreated placing security at its core. It's time to redefine the method we build networks and the means we connect customers to data", claimed Marc Nader COO of Data Consult."

"There were some extremely interesting discussions with safety and security experts from the banking community and valuable understandings from RIPE NCC during the conference. I think it's time to begin planning for an "open security forum" in our nation", Nader added.

The "LIR Training" is an intro to the RIPE NCC's management treatments and RIPE Plans related to getting and dispersing Internet resources (i.e. IP addresses, AS Numbers and turn around DNS delegation) and operating a Local Internet Registry (LIR).
