Mohammed Ben Sulayem Re-elected as FIA President

Mohammed Ben Sulayem has been re-elected as President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motorsport and the federation representing mobility organisations worldwide. His re-election follows the approval of his Presidential List by the FIA General Assembly, which convened in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan.

With this result, Ben Sulayem begins his second four-year term, having first assumed office in 2021. His initial tenure was marked by a period of significant organisational renewal and financial stabilisation for the federation.

Over the past four years, the FIA has implemented wide-ranging reforms aimed at strengthening governance, improving operational efficiency and restoring financial resilience. These measures have reinforced the FIA’s role as the world’s leading authority in motorsport governance, as well as a key global advocate for safe, sustainable and affordable mobility.

Under Ben Sulayem’s leadership, the FIA reversed a €24 million operating loss recorded in 2021, achieving a positive operating result of €4.7 million in 2024—the strongest financial performance for the federation in nearly a decade. At its Annual General Assemblies, the FIA also announced a forecast operating result of €4.4 million for 2025, signalling continued financial momentum and stability.

The improved financial position has enabled the federation to increase long-term investment in its Member Clubs and strategic programmes worldwide. This progress has been supported by broader institutional reforms, including enhanced budgetary discipline, strengthened external audit processes and modernised governance frameworks, all contributing to greater transparency and accountability.

In parallel, the FIA has expanded its global institutional presence across both motorsport and mobility. Initiatives over the past term include the establishment of a dedicated commercial function, increased regional development activity, expanded support for grassroots participation, and deeper engagement with international partners on road safety, sustainable mobility and the future of transport.

Commenting on his re-election, President Mohammed Ben Sulayem thanked FIA members for their continued confidence. He said the organisation had emerged stronger after overcoming numerous challenges and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering progress for motorsport, mobility and FIA Member Clubs worldwide.

The election was conducted in accordance with the FIA’s statutes through a transparent and democratic voting process, reflecting the collective voice of the federation’s global membership.
