Ministry of Economy inspects prices and availability of goods at Al Aweer fruit & vegetable market
The Ministry of Economy has today (Monday, June 6, 2016) carried out an evaluation of the Dubai Central Fruits & Vegetables Market in Al Aweer. The visit is the very first of more inspections to be done by the Ministry throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan to keep an eye on the marketplaces and ensure that customers are not exploited by raising rates or monopolizing specific products.
The inspection was led by Dr. Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of the Ministry's Consumer Protection Department, with the involvement of Mohammed Khamis Halian, Market Supervisor for the Dubai Municipality, and the participation of local media agents.
Dr. Al Nuaimi shared his remarks and notes to a variety of sellers as well as to the market's management of the market, the most important which was the absence of price stickers on some of the items provided. He recommended that price marking devices be offered to all suppliers and platforms to clarify costs for consumers. The management guaranteed to provide these devices and labels before the end of the holy month.
Dr. Al Nuaimi ensured throughout the visit that Dubai's Al Aweer Central Fruits & Vegetables Market offers all needed products and in sufficient quantities. He included that customers are not being made use of, noting that the prices are stable with no detected boosts. The Director likewise stated that the market imports 18,000 lots of fruits and vegetables daily during the month of Ramadan, and can store trader products at a capacity of as much as 120,000 lots.
