Global AI device ecosystem company HONOR has unveiled a suite of new mobile imaging technologies, including its AiMAGE chip-device-cloud imaging engine, while announcing a strategic partnership with cinema technology company ARRI to bring professional filmmaking workflows to smartphone users.
The announcements were made during the HONOR Imaging Technology Launch in Hengdian, where the company outlined its latest imaging strategy aimed at combining advanced optics, artificial intelligence and professional colour science to enhance mobile content creation.
HONOR Introduces AiMAGE Imaging Engine
At the event, HONOR introduced its Optics-Intelligence Evolution strategy, which combines improvements in optical hardware with AI-driven image processing.
The new AiMAGE imaging engine integrates chip, device and cloud technologies to support the entire imaging process, from image capture to post-processing and content creation.
On the hardware side, HONOR revealed a self-developed Transformer-based AI Image Signal Processor (ISP), next-generation sensor technology and an upgraded pixel array designed to improve image quality.
The company also showcased a titanium alloy three-axis gimbal, precision sensing hardware and real-time image processing algorithms that work together to improve image stabilisation, motion control and overall photographic performance.
Cloud-based capabilities include RAW-domain image enhancement, spatial imaging technologies and AI-powered imaging tools intended to support creators throughout the editing and optimisation process.
Partnership with ARRI Brings Professional Colour Science to Smartphones
As part of a new strategic technology cooperation, HONOR announced the integration of selected ARRI cinema imaging technologies into its HONOR Robot Phone.
The collaboration introduces ARRI LogC3, ARRI Wide Gamut 3 and ARRI Looks, enabling creators to capture footage using professional cinema colour workflows traditionally found in high-end filmmaking.
Unlike conventional camera filters, these technologies are designed to preserve greater colour and brightness information during recording, providing enhanced flexibility during post-production and colour grading.
HONOR and ARRI also announced the establishment of a joint imaging technology laboratory, which will focus on sensor-level imaging, dynamic range, end-to-end cinematic workflows and AI-driven image quality.
Industry Experts Discuss Mobile Filmmaking
The launch brought together leading professionals from the film industry, including Harald Brendel, Director of Image Science at ARRI; Academy Award-winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda; cinematographer Wang Boxue; HONOR Chief Imaging Engineer Luo Wei; and HONOR Imaging Cognition Expert Zhao Fuchen.
The panel discussed how professional filmmaking technologies can be adapted for mobile creators while making cinematic production more accessible.
Luo Wei said mobile imaging has moved beyond a focus on hardware specifications, with users increasingly seeking tools that allow them to express stories and emotions through video.
Harald Brendel said the partnership aims to introduce professional cinema colour standards and workflow principles to smartphone creators rather than simply offering image filters.
Filmmakers Demonstrate Professional Mobile Production
During the event, Claudio Miranda used the HONOR Robot Phone to recreate a cinematic scene, demonstrating how smartphone technology can support professional-style filmmaking.
HONOR also showcased a short film created by cinematographer Wang Boxue using the device in a complex single-shot production, highlighting its compact design, colour consistency and compatibility with professional post-production workflows.
According to Wang, the smartphone's ability to access confined spaces while maintaining image quality provides creators with greater flexibility in camera movement and scene composition.
Expanding HONOR's Mobile Imaging Ecosystem
HONOR also announced the judging panel for the HONOR Magic Stories Awards 2026, the company's global mobile imaging competition designed to encourage creative storytelling through smartphone photography and filmmaking.
In addition, the company introduced its 48-Hour Extreme Filmmaking Challenge at Hengdian World Studios, where creator teams will test HONOR's latest imaging technologies in demanding production scenarios, including high-speed action sequences, continuous one-shot filming and complex camera movements.
Through its AiMAGE imaging platform, collaboration with ARRI, filmmaker partnerships and creator-focused initiatives, HONOR said it aims to advance professional-standard mobile imaging by combining optical innovation, artificial intelligence and cinematic production workflows in a format accessible to a wider community of creators.
