HBMSU launches pioneering AI initiative to empower every faculty member
Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative titled “An Artificial Intelligence Agent for Every Faculty”, the first of its kind in the UAE and the wider region. The initiative, launched during a media briefing at the HBMSU campus in Dubai, leverages the latest agentic AI technologies to reshape the future of higher education.
Aligned with the UAE’s National AI Strategy 2031 and the Education Strategy 2033 (E33), the initiative underscores HBMSU’s role as a global leader in AI-powered education.
His Excellency Dr. Mansoor Alawar, Chancellor of HBMSU, stated that the initiative reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and President of HBMSU. “Today we are shaping the features of a new stage where artificial intelligence becomes the pillar of future initiatives and services in Dubai,” he said.
Dr. Alawar added that, under the guidance of H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, HBMSU is committed to consolidating Dubai’s global leadership in AI-driven higher education. The AI-powered ecosystem is designed to transform academic tasks, making them faster, smarter, and more efficient, thereby enhancing both faculty and student experiences.
The AI agent is programmed to support faculty with multiple academic functions, including:
-
Content development – preparing course outlines and program structures.
-
Assessment generation – designing exams and evaluation tools.
-
Performance analysis – tracking learner progress and recommending tailored support strategies.
Early results show significant improvements: content development time reduced by 85%, faculty workload reduced by 95%, and learner mastery enhanced by 40%. The system also lowers costs associated with designing and delivering academic programs while driving research and development across the university.
Developed entirely in Dubai, the platform was led by Maitha Al-Tunaiji, Vice Chancellor of HBMSU for Artificial Intelligence and Technology. It is built with strict ethical safeguards, including privacy protection, bias reduction, transparency, and compliance with international accessibility standards.
HBMSU’s initiative is expected to set a new benchmark in higher education, creating a model that integrates cutting-edge AI with academic excellence and global best practices.
