e& and 4iG Group Sign MoU to Boost Cross-Regional Digital Infrastructure

In a significant move to strengthen global digital infrastructure, e& (formerly known as Etisalat Group) and the Hungary-based 4iG Group have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration aims to accelerate the development of advanced connectivity and data infrastructure linking the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe.

The agreement outlines a framework for cooperation in multiple key areas, including the planning, development, and operation of subsea and terrestrial networks, data centres, and other high-impact digital infrastructure projects. A central highlight of the MoU is the proposed joint development of a data centre in Albania to support subsea data traffic, along with the exploration of additional infrastructure investments in Hungary through e&’s PPF Telecom.

Leadership Perspectives on the Strategic Partnership

Hatem Dowidar, Group CEO of e&, emphasized the importance of the alliance, stating:

“Our strategic partnership with 4iG is an important step in strengthening cross-regional digital infrastructure that supports economic growth, resilience, and innovation. Rooted in purposeful innovation and a belief in the power of infrastructure to unlock human potential, we see this collaboration as a platform for long-term projects that bridge continents, empower communities, and accelerate inclusive digital transformation across the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe.”

Echoing this sentiment, Gellért Jászai, Chairman of 4iG Group, remarked:

“Partnering with e& opens new avenues for collaboration across fast-growing digital corridors that link Europe with the Middle East and Africa. By combining our regional strength with e&’s global reach, we are building a strategic alliance focused on unlocking long-term value through innovation, infrastructure development, and shared investment opportunities.”

Strategic Vision for Digital Connectivity

The joint initiatives under discussion include the implementation and operation of Subsea cable projects that will primarily connect the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe. These projects aim to support the increasing demand for digital connectivity, data capacity, and regional integration. By leveraging e&’s extensive global telecom capabilities and 4iG’s robust presence in the Western Balkans, the partnership envisions a scalable model for cross-border digital cooperation.

Part of a Broader UAE–Hungary Cooperation

This MoU is part of a larger strategic initiative by 4iG Group to deepen its ties with key UAE entities. The company has also entered into similar strategic understandings with EDGE Group and Mubadala Investment Company. These partnerships underscore a shared commitment to building sustainable, innovation-led economic partnerships across sectors such as defence, strategic investment, and digital technology.

The e&–4iG collaboration signals a new era of agile, future-ready trade and technology alliances built on shared values of connectivity, resilience, and progress.
