Dulsco Reveals the First Recycling Bus in the Region During Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in Partnership with Expo 2020 Dubai
Recycling bus to go on a journey across the UAE, collect recyclable waste from communities and raise awareness of the importance of recycling
Bus is a recycled ex-commercial vehicle that has been given a new lease of life to support Expo 2020 Dubai’s recycling education and awareness efforts
Emirati integrated solutions issuer Dulsco, the Official Waste Management Partner of Expo 2020 Dubai, targets to create a recycling buzz with the large expose of its recycling bus to audiences at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES), which is being hosted at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week from January 13 – 16, 2020.
A first initiative in the region, Dulsco’s bus will be on show at WFES, with the branded colourful vehicle proposing a range of bins as receptacles for distinct recyclable waste products. The installation encourages community members to discard their recyclables into distinctive waste streams. Following WFES, the bus will quit at the Expo 2020 Dubai site at the time of its own Sustainability Week, which will take place between January 19 – 23, 2020, to remind all Expo 2020 Dubai staff about the significance of waste segregation and recycling.
The launch of Dulsco’s recycling bus at WFES forms part of a programme that will quickly see it setting off on a trip around the United Arab Emirates to increase awareness in communities on the importance of disposing of waste effectively so that it can be reused with a new life-cycle. The initiative also supports Expo 2020 Dubai’s goals to interact with the community and enlarge the impact of sustainability beyond the boundaries of the physical site and beyond the period of the six-month event. The vehicle’s planned itinerary which includes stops at colleges and other institutions to spotlight waste recycling, with its journey also tied into environmental awareness days.
Along with teaching people and elevating awareness, Dulsco’s recycling bus will be travelling around communities to physically gather recyclable waste and transport it to its a variety of waste recycling facilities, which includes the new latest Materials Recovery Facility in Ras Al Khor, Dubai. Along its journey, it will also be the focus of particularly organised community events that form part of Dulsco’s CSR programme, which revolves around its dedication to “powering better communities” through the ‘4R’s:’ reducing, reusing, repurposing and recycling.
In addition to demonstrating how Dulsco targets to meet Expo 2020 Dubai and federal waste diversion targets, Dulsco’s recycling bus will exhibit how the company is contributing to the creation of a circular economy – an economic model that brings assets back into use and feeds again to the economy. Among the strategies they will be demonstrating is how attractive items of apparel, such as T-shirts and caps, can be fashioned from plastic bottles; how discarded glass can enter a new life-cycle as candle holders, serving trays and coasters; and how paper and cardboard can be changed into egg trays, cup-holders and seed pots.
“The future of energy is one that is going to be described by a commitment towards renewables and sustainability, with the effective reuse of waste a essential factor of this commitment. The World Future Energy Summit is the perfect platform for us to exhibit how – as the Official Waste Management Partner of Expo 2020 Dubai – we will be assisting Expo 2020 Dubai to gain a rate of 85 per cent waste diversion away from landfill. This will in addition contribute closer to the achievement of the diversion aims mentioned in the UAE’s Vision 2021. A foremost part of this diversion will be carried out with our progressive waste repurposing strategies which view waste as a resource,” stated David Stockton, CEO and Managing Director, Dulsco.
“Our partnership with Dulsco is indicative of our steadfast dedication to one of Expo 2020 Dubai’s core subthemes, sustainability, which permeates the whole thing we do at Expo 2020. Segregating, treating and diverting 85 per cent of onsite waste away from landfill is a key goal inside our wider sustainability programme, reflecting a dedication to minimize our environmental footprint and set an example for future mega-events,” stated Sanjive Khosla, Chief Commercial Officer, Expo 2020 Dubai.
