Ducab Echoes Power Over Fire Across GCC, Promoting Standards & Safer Building Practices

Dubai, UAE, March02, 2015:Ducab, UAE-based leading manufacturer of high-quality cables and cabling products, is Bronze sponsor of the Middle East Electricity Summit 2015, and is present at the event to drive conversation around safer building practices and fire safety. With strong backing from parent companies, Abu Dhabis Senaat and the Investment Corporation of Dubai, the cable major plays a regional role in sharing expertise and certifying professionals and partners from around the region through its PowerOverFire campaign, its FlamBICC series of low-smoke, zero-halogen cables and products, and a recently-concluded GCC-wide technical seminar series on fire safety.

At the Middle East Electricity Summit 2015, pride of place on the Ducab stand will be occupied by the FlamBICC series of LPCB certified, Civil Defence approved fire-resistant and fire-retardant cables, designed to survive and operate during fire conditions. Its low-smoke (for better visibility) and zero-halogen (reduced collateral damage) features makes the range the most suited for public spaces (schools, malls, public areas), areas of high circuit integrity need (hospitals), essential safety circuits (fire alarms), emergency power supply (sprinklers), and in large areas where evacuation can be in a phased manner. The FlamBICC range adheres to the stringent standards set and adopted by the civil defence and standardization authorities the world over.

Eng. Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri, Chairman, Ducab, said: The Middle East Electricity Summit brings together professionals in this sector at a very opportune time. There is increased conversation around fire safety and the assigning of responsibilities in the case of an event. At Ducab, we believe that fire safety needs to be incorporated with a long-term vision at the construction phase, and we are proud to cooperate with the GCC wide Standardisation and Civil Defence Authorities in identifying the best and relevant standards for our market.

Fire safety is a collective responsibility, and is hindered by low awareness and cost-driven buying behaviour. As the authorities have taken the lead in laying down the applicable standards for the UAE, our primary responsibility is to ensure our products adherence to the most stringent local and global standards. Through our public and private educational initiatives, we believe that we are also driving the market towards a future in which damage to life and property is minimized due to non-standard cables and cabling products. As a UAE corporate citizen, we consider our PowerOverFire campaign a part of our corporate responsibility, he added.

Recently, experts from Ducab organized fire safety roadshows and travelled across the GCC to educate professionals in UAE, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain about the importance of selecting certified fire resistant cables, and the potentially lethal consequences of choosing substandard cabling. The educational technical seminars, part of Ducabs PowerOverFire campaign, were led by Ashish Chaturvedy, Marketing Manager, Ducab, and Ian Watts, Project Manager Technical Department, Ducab-AEI Cables, UK.

Andrew Shaw, Managing Director, Ducab said: The GCC region is emerging as a key frontier in terms of how standards are being adopted and adapted, and with the inclement weather and industrial conditions, this proves to be a market with very rigorous fire-safety requirements. As market leaders with expertise spanning defence, industrial, marine, oil and gas, metro rail and even the nuclear industry, Ducab-AEI Cables is investing in sharing our experience and expertise to minimize loss of life and property as far as possible.

Ducabs PowerOverFire initiative was launched in 2013, with a mobile roadshow in a custom-branded 40-foot truck that travelled the UAEand distributed information to general public, dealers and retailers in the electrical product supply chain. The truck also featured touch-screen kiosks and a classroom for seminars to raise fire safety awareness with all the visitors. This campaign was held in association with the General Directorate of Civil Defence, UAE Ministry of Interior and aimed to target contractors, retailers and the general public as well.
