Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects Awards Advanced Screening Contract to Smiths Detection at Dubai International Airport
Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP) has officially awarded a multi-year contract to Smiths Detection for the installation of state-of-the-art checkpoint screening technology across all terminals of Dubai International Airport (DXB). The announcement was made on the opening day of the Airport Show 2025, underscoring the emirate’s commitment to modernizing aviation infrastructure.
Under the agreement, Smiths Detection will deploy the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX Model-S computed tomography scanners in Terminals 1, 2, and 3. These advanced scanners deliver high-resolution 3D imaging and are designed to allow passengers to retain electronics and liquids inside their bags, enhancing both security and passenger convenience.
Certified by global regulatory bodies such as the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) and ECAC (European Civil Aviation Conference), the systems also incorporate iCMORE automatic object recognition software, smart lane management, and automated tray return features to optimize the screening process and increase operational efficiency.
This initiative is in alignment with Dubai’s long-term vision to create a seamless, secure, and technologically advanced airport environment, strengthening its position as a global leader in aviation.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Dubai Airports, stated:
“Dubai continues to lead the world in aviation excellence by investing in the latest security screening technologies. This project strengthens passenger safety, enhances the travel experience, and reinforces Dubai’s reputation as a global aviation hub.”
His Excellency Eng. Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership:
“Selecting Smiths Detection reflects our commitment to smart infrastructure integration across our airports. It is an investment in operational efficiency and the safety of millions of travelers as we build the airports of the future.”
Her Excellency Eng. Suzanne Al Anani, CEO of Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects, added:
“We are dedicated to developing secure and intelligent airport infrastructure that meets future demands. This project exemplifies our proactive approach to enabling safe, seamless, and high-capacity travel through the integration of smart, advanced technologies.”
Tom Squier, Managing Director of Smiths Detection Middle East, expressed pride in the collaboration:
“We are honored to collaborate with Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects to help secure one of the world’s busiest airports. Our advanced screening solutions will enhance detection efficiency and support Dubai’s vision for safe and smart air travel.”
This deployment is part of Dubai’s broader strategy for intelligent airport transformation. As DXB continues to set benchmarks in global passenger traffic, the introduction of such cutting-edge security infrastructure ensures the airport remains at the forefront of global aviation standards.
