BYD and Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility Sign MoU with Safeline Group to Drive Fleet Electrification in the UAE

In a milestone move toward advancing sustainable transportation in the UAE, BYD, the world’s top manufacturer of new energy vehicles (NEVs), has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Safeline Group, a leading electrical and mechanical distribution firm in the region. The agreement, facilitated by Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility Company, aims to accelerate the electrification of logistics fleets in alignment with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 strategy and green mobility agenda.

As part of the agreement, Safeline Group will acquire 12 fully electric BYD vehicles, initiating the first phase of a larger three-year plan to convert its entire fleet from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs). The partnership underscores the increasing role of private-sector collaboration in shaping a cleaner and more sustainable transport landscape across the Emirates.

“This partnership with Al-Futtaim is more than just a fleet upgrade. It symbolizes our unwavering commitment to sustainability and innovation,” said Dr. Aboobacker Kuttikol, Managing Director of Safeline Group. “We have already embraced electric mobility in our warehouse operations through battery-powered forklifts, and we are now taking the next step by electrifying our distribution fleet. We are also exploring commercial EV options to fully transition to green transport.”

The initial rollout of the 12 BYD EVs marks a pivotal moment in Safeline’s long-term sustainability journey, positioning the company as a trailblazer in eco-conscious logistics within the UAE. Safeline’s decision to partner with BYD reflects the brand’s reputation for delivering cutting-edge EV technology supported by a robust regional infrastructure through Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility.

Mohammad Kassem, Retail Director at BYD Al-Futtaim, emphasized the broader impact of the initiative: “This strategic alliance with Safeline Group exemplifies Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility’s mission to support the UAE’s electrification journey. We’re not only delivering advanced EV solutions but also building a strong foundation for businesses to meet their sustainability targets. This partnership is a significant step toward a greener logistics sector.”

Signed on July 2, 2025, the MoU aligns closely with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 objectives and reflects a growing nationwide emphasis on reducing carbon emissions through innovative transport solutions. It also reinforces Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility’s leadership in supporting B2B electrification efforts across the region.

The Safeline-BYD partnership is expected to set a precedent for other regional logistics and distribution companies looking to pivot toward cleaner energy alternatives. As technology advances and regulatory incentives increase, such collaborations are key to fostering an integrated, low-emission transport infrastructure across the UAE.
