Ben Sulayem calls for positive change in motorsport and global mobility
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has pledged to drive further positive change across motorsport and mobility sectors worldwide as he welcomed nearly 500 senior delegates to the FIA Annual General Assemblies in Tashkent.
The assemblies brought together representatives from 149 countries ahead of the 2025 FIA Presidential Election and the annual FIA Awards, marking one of the most significant weeks on the global motorsport calendar.
Ben Sulayem highlighted progress made during his tenure, outlining a vision to strengthen the organisation’s social impact through expanded grassroots motorsport initiatives, including the Affordable Cross Car and Global Karting Plan, while reinforcing the federation’s role in shaping safer, more sustainable transport systems. He said the organisation would continue to lead global conversations on road safety, sustainable cities, and the future of mobility.
During the event, the Republic of Uzbekistan became the newest signatory to the United Against Online Abuse (UAOA) Charter. The agreement was signed following a meeting between Ben Sulayem and Adkham Ilkhamovich Ikramov, Minister of Sports of Uzbekistan, bringing the country into a growing global coalition working to combat online abuse in sport.
Online abuse remains one of the most pressing challenges facing global sport, affecting athletes, officials, volunteers and fans. Uzbekistan’s participation reflects its commitment to promoting safer digital environments and protecting sporting communities through international cooperation.
Ben Sulayem said sport must be protected as a positive force in society, adding that the growing coalition of international partners is working to deliver meaningful, long-term change. Ikramov said Uzbekistan was proud to support efforts to protect athletes and fans and help build safer online spaces for sport worldwide.
The United Against Online Abuse campaign continues to expand and has recently received international recognition for its work, uniting sports federations, governments and technology platforms to drive education, research and behavioural change.
