Solar Decathlon Middle East (SDME), Expo 2020 is linked to the theme "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future"

Azizi Developments, one of the leading private developers in the UAE, underscores its commitment to promoting youth innovation culture, as well as supporting educational initiatives that promote sustainable growth by funding the Solar Decathlon Middle East (SDME).

An international competition created by the US Department of Energy in which universities around the world meet to design, build and operate a grid-connected, solar-powered home, SDME is organized by Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

Head of Construction Operations at Azizi Developments, Alexandros Pounentis, said: As an international competition aimed at promoting research and innovation in the green building industry through an effective partnership framework between academics and industry, SDME promotes a culture of localized innovation in line with our leadership vision to promote sustainable growth. Supporting initiatives with such an emphasis on youth, education and sustainability allows them to promote change and make a lasting impact.

Our support of Team Tawazun, the group that participates in the "Olympics of Sustainable Buildings", underscores our focus on encouraging young talent to innovate and develop value-added solutions for our industry and the future. He added.

For the second edition of SDME, the theme of Expo 2020 is "Connecting Mind. Creating the Future", Azizi Developments supports the Dubai campus of Higher Education Academy for its Tawazun project - A sustainable, adaptive home that combines traditional and modern techniques to improve the health and well-being of residents.

The SDME will showcase innovative projects of young talent, highlighting the pillars of opportunity, sustainability and innovation the three sub-themes of Expo 2020. Azizi Developments is currently working with Team Tawazun on their project to expand its technical expertise and industry insights. The project proposed by the team is truly a hallmark of innovation and sustainability. It Not only does it include passive design, unique technologies and key materials , but it also means cost and energy efficiency and a lack of carbon and water, which is truly commendable, added Alexandros Pounentis.

Through the support of Azizi, SDME aims to empower the youth, encourage innovation, incubate creativity and promote environmental sustainability, ensuring clean, healthy and safe environments for generations to come.

Team Tawazuns single-family home is primarily intended to be solar powered and plans to be a net-zero and energy-positive building that will comply with-and surpasses- local and international green building codes. In line with Dubai's focus on driving the fourth industrial revolution, it will combine 3D printing, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things.

As part of the SDME, more than 225 unique, sustainable homes will be built with the participation of more than 38 countries.
