Arada secures first Australian planning approval for Sydney residential project
UAE-based master developer Arada has received planning approval for its first project in Australia, clearing the way for London Place, a 33-storey residential development in Campsie, Sydney's Inner Southwest.
The approval was granted by the New South Wales Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure and marks Arada's first project approval in Australia.
Designed by Woods Bagot, London Place will comprise 156 apartments, including 18 designated as affordable housing. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2027, with completion targeted for the fourth quarter of 2029.
The project has a gross development value of AED560 million.
First of five planned Sydney projects
London Place is the first of five developments Arada is planning for Sydney's Inner Southwest region. The company said the projects form part of its longer-term plans for the area and are intended to contribute to housing supply and urban renewal.
The development will offer two-, three- and four-bedroom apartments, including sub-penthouse and penthouse residences on the upper floors.
Planned amenities include a residents' lounge, private dining room, music room and gym, along with a covered barbecue terrace, lap pool, spa, sauna and outdoor seating areas.
Ahmed Alkhoshaibi, Group CEO of Arada, said the company was attracted to Campsie because of its development potential and described London Place as the first step in its broader plans for the region.
Campsie undergoing major transformation
London Place is being developed as Campsie undergoes significant urban change, with the planned opening of Campsie Metro Station expected to improve connections between the suburb and other parts of Sydney.
Arada said the new metro connection is expected to provide access to Sydney's central business district in under 20 minutes, strengthening the area's links to employment, cultural and lifestyle destinations.
The development is therefore being positioned within a wider transformation of Sydney's Inner Southwest rather than as an isolated residential project.
Approval secured through streamlined planning process
London Place was recognised by the NSW Housing Delivery Authority (HDA) as a State Significant Development (SSD), providing a streamlined planning pathway for major housing projects.
The approval was secured alongside the rezoning of the site. According to Arada, the planning process was completed in less than four months, compared with the HDA's benchmark target of 275 days.
The approval allows Arada to progress towards the construction phase, with work currently scheduled to begin in Q2 2027.
Arada expands Australian presence
Arada entered the Australian market in 2024 and has since assembled a pipeline of more than 6,000 homes.
The company's global development pipeline is valued at AED171 billion, with more than 70,000 homes across the UAE, UK, Australia and Syria.
The London Place approval marks the first major planning milestone for Arada's Australian development strategy and provides a starting point for its planned expansion across Sydney's Inner Southwest.
